Shah, 32, made his debut address on Thursday following the resignation of staff secretary Rob Porter over domestic abuse allegations. He was bombarded by questions on the White House advisor's sudden exit, the US media reported.
He was filling in the shoes of White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders who is away on a vacation.
Ahead of his briefing, Sanders took to Twitter and described Shah as "one of the best and the brightest in the Trump administration".
