Reliance JioPhone 2 flash sale today at 12 noon: Know price, recharge plans

Reliance Jio, a Mukesh Ambani-owned telecommunication service provider, is hosting the flash sale of its JioPhone 2 today i.e. August 16 at 12 noon on Jio online portal. Successor of the JioPhone, the JioPhone 2 was announced at the Reliance Industries’ 41st Annual General Meeting, which was held in Mumbai on July 4. Priced at Rs 2,999, the JioPhone 2 is a 4G LTE-enabled feature phone that runs on KaiOS, which supports popular social media and instant messaging apps such as Facebook and WhatsApp. The phone also comes loaded with Google apps such as YouTube and Google Maps.

Reliance JioPhone 2: Features and specifications

The JioPhone 2 sport a 2.4-inch screen horizontal screen, which makes it convenient for watching multimedia content. It features a full QWERTY keyboard with 4-way navigation key and a dedicated key for voice commands. The phone boots KaiOS with support for apps such as Facebook, YouTube, Google Maps and WhatsApp. The 4G LTE-enable feature phone supports VoLTE call feature, which allows voice calls using data packets. The phone can be operated using voice commands. The voice command feature is not limited to calling and messages, but also to operate the phone's apps – music playback, YouTube and video playback, etc. The phone also comes equipped with the NFC chip, which would support digital payments service in future. With NFC technology, users would also be able to make digital transactions through their Jan Dhan account, bank accounts and Jio money app.

Independence Day: Shahid Afridi wishes India, says 'let humanity prevail'

Former Pakistan T20 skipper Shahid Afridi has wished India on its 70th Independence Day and called for peace, tolerance and love between the two nations as there was "no way to change neighbours".

"Happy Independence Day India! No way to change neighbours, let's work towards peace, tolerance and love. Let humanity prevail.# HopeNotOut," tweeted Afridi.

Every year, the Asian neighbours celebrate their Independence Days within a gap of 24 hours of each other.

While Pakistan celebrated its Independence Day on Monday, India is all geared up to celebrate its 70th Independence Day on Tuesday.

Both the countries have witnessed several wars and conflicts in the past 70 years of their relationship.

And in recent times, the relationship between the two nations has turned sour amid continuous ceasefire violations and terror attacks from the Pakistani side.

Karachi: 13-yr old girl, 10 others injured in Pak Independence day gunfire

At least 11 people were wounded due to aerial firing during Independence Day celebration in Karachi on the night between Sunday and Monday.

According to reports, the gun-fire celebrations injured included women and children.

A stray bullet wounded a 13-year-old girl Maryam in Soldier Bazaar area, while a woman was injured in aerial firing near ICI Bridge, reports Dunya News.

Aerial firing in Light House area injured a man named Umair, while Yameen was wounded in Sarafa Bazaar area of Khara Dar.

At least seven more people were injured in incidents of aerial firing in Azam Basti, Lines Aera, Landhi, Mahmoodabad, Defence, Aysha Manzil and Numaish Chowrangi.

The wounded persons were shifted to various hospitals of the city.

Boston airport crash: 10 injured after taxi ploughs into pedestrians

A taxi driver plowed his car into a group of people outside Boston international airport today, injuring 10 people on the eve of the Independence Day holiday in the United States, police said.

The 56-year-old driver was being interviewed by officers but there was no initial indication that the crash was intentional, Massachusetts state police said.

The incident happened at 1:40pm (1740 GMT) at the cab pool at Logan International Airport. Ten people were taken to hospital with injuries of varying severity, police said.

"The cause of the crash remains under investigation," state police added.

US media reported that a taxi driver appeared to have lost control, hitting the gas pedal instead of the break.
