Harvey Weinstein released on $1 million bail over rape, sex abuse charges

Harvey Weinstein, who was arrested and arraigned on charges that he raped one woman and forced another to perform oral sex on him, has been released on $1 million bail.

According to USA Today, the disgraced Hollywood producer also agreed to wear a GPS tracker and to surrender his passport after turning himself in to police on Friday.

Weinstein was carrying three books, including Todd Purdum's "Something Wonderful: Rodgers and Hammerstein's Broadway Revolution," as he got out of a black SUV and walked past the swarm of TV cameras and reporters and through the front door of the New York Police Department's First Precinct in Manhattan on Friday.

His defense attorney Benjamin Brafman told reporters that Weinstein would enter a not guilty plea.

"Mr Weinstein has always maintained that he has never engaged in non-consensual sexual behaviour with anyone. Nothing about today's proceedings changes Mr Weinstein's position. He has entered a plea of not guilty and fully expects to be exonerated," Brafman was quoted as saying in the US media.

The New York Times and The New Yorker won the Pulitzer Prize for public service Monday for explosive reporting that brought down Harvey Weinstein and spawned a cultural watershed on the issue of sexual harassment.

The prestigious prize was awarded to the Times team led by Jodi Kantor and Megan Twohey and New Yorker contributor Ronan Farrow, for reports that disgraced the Hollywood mogul and sparked an avalanche of accusations against other powerful men.

Since the Times and New Yorker articles last October, more than 100 women have publicly accused the producer of misconduct ranging from sexual harassment to rape, sparking the #MeToo movement that has seen a string of influential men lose their jobs and reputation.

Weinstein's marriage has ended, he has been under police investigation in London, Los Angeles and New York, hit by a litany of civil lawsuits and his former production company has been forced to file for bankruptcy.

Why Netflix may not be able to fire Spacey from 'House of Cards'

Netflix may not be able to sack Kevin Spacey from their popular series "House of Cards", after the veteran actor was accused of sexual harassment, due to his contract.

According to a report in The Blast, Spacey's contract does not have an morality clause, meaning that the streaming giant cannot terminate the star's services for his personal actions.

A source said Spacey's contract can only end if he is "unavailable or incapacitated" to perform his duties.

In response, a spokesperson from the streaming service replied saying, "Netflix will not be involved with any further production of House of Cards that includes Kevin Spacey. We will continue to work with MRC (the show's production company) during this hiatus time to evaluate our path forward as it relates to the show..."

The rep added they will not move forward with "Gore," a biopic on the American writer Gore Vidal, featuring Spacey in the title role.

The series was in its post-production phase.

Actor Anthony Rapp had accused Spacey of sexual misconduct, when he was just 14.

Production on the sixth and last season of the Netflix series, in which the actor plays the lead of Frank Underwood, has since been suspended.

Earlier, the streaming service released a statement, saying said it was "deeply troubled" by Rapp's allegation.

HBO cuts ties with comedian Louis C K after sexual misconduct claims

HBO has decided that they will no longer be working with Louis C K, who was recently accused of sexual misconduct by five women in a New York Times expose.

"Louis C K will no longer be participating in the 'Night of Too Many Stars America Unites' for Autism Programs. In addition, HBO is removing Louis C K's past project from its On Demand services," a spokesperson for the network told Us Weekly in a statement.

As previously reported, comedians Dana Min Goodman, Julia Wolov, Abby Schachner and a woman who spoke under the condition of anonymity told the publication that the producer masturbated in front of him.

C K joins Harvey Weinstein, James Toback, Steven Seagal, Kevin Spacey, Jeremy Piven and more males in Hollywood who have been accused of sexual harassment throughout the past month.

FX Networks has also issued a statement Us regarding the claims, "We are obviously very troubled by the allegations about Louis C.K. published in The New York Times today. The network has received no allegations of misconduct by Louis C K related to any of our 5 shows produced tougher over the past 8 years.

"FX Networks and FCP take all necessary actions to protect our employees and thoroughly investigate any allegations of misconduct within our workplace. That said, the matter is currently under review.
