Airtel embroiled in row over anti-Muslim tweet from a customer

Bharti Airtel, Airtel

The country’s top telecom operator Bharti Airtel has been embroiled in a controversy after the company allegedly complied to one of its customer’s request for a Hindu representative for resolving a problem. The whole controversy erupted when one Pooja Singh, whose twitter handle was @pooja303singh, complained about her Airtel DTH connection on Twitter. In response to her tweet, an Airtel representative named Shoaib replied saying the company would get back to her shortly with more information.

However, sensing that Shoaib was a Muslim, Singh demanded assignment of a Hindu representative, which Airtel obliged with. “Dear Shohaib, as you’re a Muslim and I have no faith in your working ethics because Kuran may have different version for customer service, thus requesting you to assign a Hindu representative for my request. Thanks,” Pooja Singh@pooja303singh said in the tweet. In response to that, Airtel with its twitter handle @Airtel_Presence responded, “Hi Pooja! As discussed, please let me know what days &time frames work best for you so we can talk. Further, please share an alternate number so that I can assist you further with this. Thank You, Gaganjot.”
